以中国第一支女子朋克乐队的身份于99年出道乐坛，那时侯，“盒子”们的音乐是典型的hardcore punk，技术并不出众，歌声也不加修饰，但自有一股率真的劲头。后来，她们与“红星”唱片公司签下2首单曲约，分别发表在了两张合集中，乐队逐渐受到越来越多的人的关注。
在美语俚语中，banana的意思是“疯子”。那么“yellow banana”的意思就是“黄皮肤的疯子”也即是“中国疯子”的意思。结合唱片文案来看，这个语义双关的唱片标题反映了鲜明且彻底的中国女性摇滚姿态。
与此同时，乐队自身随着不断的进步也做出了相应的调整，原来身兼吉他手的王悦专心的站在了麦克前，由原鼓手杨帆拿起了吉他，并把同为女孩的鼓手沈静招至队中。这样，“挂在盒子上”就形成了主唱王悦、吉他杨帆、贝司伊丽娜、鼓手沈静的固定阵容。她们的音乐也因此发生了很大的变化，不再是原来单纯的朋克乐，而是加入了许多另类的音乐成分，并且更加注重旋律和音色的经营，这就自然增加了可听性。2000年初她们和北京的一些乐队在日本的杀害盐化公司发行了一张合辑，里面有她们两个单曲，这张唱片被BENTEN公司的老板听到，对她们非常感兴趣，就来北京和“盒子们”见面了，于是这几个女孩就有了一纸合约，2001年4月在日本发行了丰江舟制作并录音的第一张唱片《Yellow Banana》，并随后在日本发行，取得了意想不到的好成绩。一句话，这几个平均年龄刚刚20岁的中国女孩把日本人给迷住了。“盒子”们正式把国内的唱片约签给了“嚎叫唱片”，已在日本发行的首张唱片与广大国内乐迷见面，而乐队的第二张唱片在中国和日本做同步发行。
